The Edmund Bühler Company, having its registered office in Tübingen and its manufacturing base in Hechingen, celebrates its 135th anniversary this year, of which management and staff are proud!
The company was founded by Edmund Bühler in the university city of Tübingen in 1880. He started with a workshop and a small shop for laboratory supplies, serving professors and students.
Before founding his own company, Edmund Bühler practiced his inventiveness and skills as university mechanician in Heidelberg. There he developed the Bunsen burner in cooperation with Professor Robert Bunsen (1811-1899), a device indispensable today in almost every laboratory.
135 years later the Edmund Bühler GmbH is still owned by the family. Johanna Otto, the great-granddaughter of the founder, is running the company at the manufacturing base in Hechingen today.
To account for the growth of the Edmund Bühler GmbH the general management was expanded this year. Michael Schlecht was appointed additional General Manager with sole power of representation on April 1st, 2015.
Mr. Schlecht has been active in the company as technical director for several years. He will contribute his expert knowledge, management know-how, and his project experience to the management of the company.
Over the years, the Edmund Bühler GmbH has developed to become a company which operates throughout the world.
The production and sales of reliable and versatile laboratory devices is traditionally a main focus of the company.
A second focal point is the development and production of modern, sophisticated equipment for metal research.

In-house production depth at the manufacturing base in Hechingen assures that individual solutions based on customer specifications can be developed and produced, also for single items.
Besides the wide range of „Bühler“ shakers our laboratory equipment program also comprises incubator hoods, infrared heaters, cell mills, and homogenizers.
Materials Science – for Highest Demands in Metal Research
Materials Science is the second focus of the Edmund Bühler Company. It comprises the development and production of most modern, technically mature systems for special methods in materials science. The highly specialized devices are designed and produced according to customer requirements and intended applications. These include arc melters, melt spinners, splat quenchers, high- and low-temperature x-ray diffraction chambers, heat zone furnaces, and induction melters.
